Whispers of Enchantment: The Gingerbread House (Chapter two only)

As the morning dawned, Queen Snowfall–despite her overabundance of excitement, took her time, to prepare for the prominent Winter Ceremony–The Winter Ceremony that happened only once in a million years. She was anxious and eager at the same time- hosting The Winter Ceremony was a pleasure in Frostwood monarchy.

“Oh, thank the magician who gave us this magical child,” The Queen thought. At the same time, she rummaged through her golden wardrobe, selecting the best dress to wear to the ceremony, “Oh thank the magician who turned a small town into a kingdom,” The Queen smiled as she stared into her daughter’s deep blue eyes, “Oh thank the magician who built the house and purified the forest into the enchanted forest we know today. Oh, thank the witch who got rid of the volcano so many years ago.”

Just then, a maid paced in and announced that everyone else was prepared. “ Lead the way.” The Queen stood up, holding the baby in her arms. She wanted to whisper, Did you hear that love? The ceremony! But with all her people waiting down there, she had to put them first.

She took a step forward in her long white gown with golden accents. She grasped the baby tightly. The maid bowed her head as guards opened the front door. Queen Snowfall looked amidst the crowds of people gathering around her. “Oh thank the magician,” Queen Snowfall whispered, “for making this miracle we will never forget.”

The bright sun shined on Queen Snowfall at a perfect angle. “Welcome,  citizens of Frostwood,” she beamed as all attention was shot towards her and the chitter-chattering of the crowd stopped. “to the Winter Ceremony. As you all know, my child Snow, was born on the millionth full moon in a millennium ” Queen Snowfall stopped for a moment as the crowned started talking again before continuing, “As you all know, once my child turns 21 she will venture off into the forest to gather the magic of the gingerbread house. Snow is a very special child, so I wish everyone would treat her well. Queen Dimond was the first, and Snow is the second, we all know that Snow will help our kingdom reach new heights and grow even more. We just have to wait. Thank you for your time, my people.”

She took a deep breath, grasping the strength to turn around. With her back facing the audience, she took a slow step forward and proceeded to the backstage. Soon after her voice stopped, waves of praise and shouts flooded Queen Snowfall’s ears.

“Oh so wise!”

“We are honored to have you as our queen!”

She flushed with pride as she moved into her chamber to change into something more comfortable since the dress she was currently wearing was insanely itchy. As she was walking through the castle halls, she stopped at the picture of the first moon child, Queen Diamond. As a child, she and her older sister Winter would come to look at the picture almost every day, imagining the crown adorned with sparkly diamonds on top of our heads, at that time though, she knew she would never be on the throne. Queen Snowfall remembered all these precious memories while whispering to Snow “ Do you see that dear, that’s Queen Demand.” After that, she slowly walked back to her chamber and after rummaging through her wardrobe for a bit, she chose a long and loose dress. She looked down and realized Snow was asleep in her arms. “It’s ok, Snow, everything will be ok soon, once we make it to the wisteria clearing, everything will be ok, and you can sleep for as long as you want.” After Queen Snowfall said that, she set out for the Wisteria clearing, riding through the entire west side of the kingdom and seeing so many wonders. As she brushed away part of the long curtain of wisteria that grew around the perimeter of the clearing, she couldn’t help but gasp at the beauty of the clearing, it was perfect in every way, just perfect. After gently putting Snow onto the center stone, she whispered to Snow, “Don’t worry dear, you’ll meet Queen Dimond soon and learn how to properly use your new magic, I promise.” She got up and looked around and saw her bed in the corner of the clearing. After lying down she slowly drifted into sleep, dreaming about a person she thought she would never have to dream about again: her older sister, Winter, but in these dreams, she also saw a face she hadn’t seen in years, a face of a person she thought have been executed years ago: Hailstorm, in her dreams, Queen Snowfall also saw her mother: Queen Blizzard, whom she thought she would never have to see again.
